Black Leather Saddles: Good Things To Know Before Buying
- Is the black saddle all leather? Some saddles are made of a combination of leather and some other material, such as Cordura or synthetic leather. These other materials can help to make the saddle lighter in weight and, in some cases, easier to care for.
- Is the saddle new or used? If the saddle is used, it's reasonable to expect it might have some defects of some kind. The seller should clearly describe any scratches, scuffs, tears, stains, etc., and show them in the pictures if possible.
- Does the black saddle come with or without cinches, stirrups, latigos,
billets, etc.? Read the description carefully so you know exactly what you
are, and are not, getting.
- If the saddle does come with cinches, stirrups, latigos, billets, etc., do these items match or coordinate with the black color of the saddle?
- Will the saddle fit you and/or your horse? Does the seller clearly give you such information such as seat size, type of saddle tree, and dimensions of the gullet, cantle, swells (sometimes also called the pommel), etc.?
- How much does the saddle weigh? You don't want to accidentally buy a saddle that is too heavy for you to lift onto your horse.
- What will the shipping charges be? Remember, a black leather saddle, or a saddle that is a combination of leather and synthetic materials, can be heavy to ship. Make sure you know what the shipping charges are before you buy the saddle.
- Will the seller ship to your area? How soon will the saddle be shipped after you pay for it?
- What payment methods does the seller accept? How soon after the sale do you have to pay for your purchase? An increasing number of eBay sellers are getting tired of buyers who take a long time to pay for their item. Some of these sellers are now requiring the item be paid for within a certain time frame or the sale is off. Read the item's description for acceptable payment times and terms.
- Will the seller accept returns? Some do, but not all. If you think there's a chance you may want or need to return the saddle after you buy it, make sure you know the seller's return policy before you bid or buy.
- Every eBay item for sale has a "Seller info" area. Be sure to check this area to view the feedback that previous buyers have left for that particular seller.
- If you have any questions about a black saddle for sale on eBay be sure to ask the seller before you bid or buy. Look for the "Ask a question" link in the "Questions and answers about this item" area to ask your questions.
