The term "horse grooming kit" can be a bit broad. A horse grooming kit might be for general grooming, hoof (farrier) care, braiding manes and tails, etc., and each kit from different sellers may contain different items. Read the item description carefully to know what does and does not come with any particular grooming kit you may be interested in.

Common Items Used For Horse Grooming

Below is a list of common items used for horse grooming, and what each item is used for.

Body Brush - A soft bristled brush. Body brushes are good for removing loose dirt, dust, etc. from a horse's hair coat. Usually used as a "finishing" brush after using a curry comb and/or dandy brush. If the horse is fairly clean to begin with, this may be the only brush needed.

Curry Comb - A hard comb or brush, circular or oval shaped, usually made from either metal, plastic, or rubber. Curry combs are used to remove dried mud, manure, or other caked-on grime from the horse's body. These should be used gently, as hard pressure used with a curry comb can make a horse uncomfortable, especially on horses with sensitive skin.

Dandy Brush - A stiff bristled brush. Good for removing heavy dirt or light mud from a horse's body. A dandy brush should be used gently on horses with short, summer hair coats or horses with sensitive skin.

Face Brush - A very soft bristled brush that is smaller than brushes used on the horse's body. The extra-soft bristles make it ideal for the sensitive skin of the face, and the small size makes it easier to maneuver around the horse's eyes, ears, nostrils, etc.

Hoof Pick - A tool for cleaning (or "picking out") a horse's feet.

Mane and/or Tail Comb - Combs for brushing a horse's mane and/or tail. These come in many different types and styles.

Shedding Blade - A tool for removing long, loose hair from a horse's body. Often comes with a ridged or toothed side for removing hair, and a smooth side from scraping off sweat or water.

Sweat Scraper - A tool for removing excess sweat or water (such as after a bath) from a horse's hair coat. Often comes with smooth side for scraping off sweat or water, and a ridged or toothed side for removing long, loose hair.
