I rescued "Chester" a registered 14 yr old Missouri Fox Trotter in June of 2008 from an elderly woman who could no longer care for her horses. Chester was lacking proper nutrition and exercise. He was probably 150 lbs overweight, and was so close to foundering. Today, with proper care and maintenance... he is very healthy His feet after several trimmings turned out fantastic and needs no special additional care.
When I first got him, I put him on a strict low calorie diet and provided him with hoof supplements, and a product called "Remission"... for sugar intolerant horses. He has been built up to getting regular exercise and riding. He has the most beautiful face and coloring. I used to be a state licensed humane investigator... and this horse recovered incredibly quickly He is now healthy and has no signs of any leg or feet issues. He is gaited and rides very nice. He is a strong, big horse -- solid. Sometimes he pulls when leading, but with a lead shank he quickly quits doing it. He just needs a little reminder that you are the alpha horse - then he's great. He's not fond of the clippers, but after working with him for a while, I was able to clip him. Great with the vet and farrier... very gentle. Kids have ridden him. The old lady bought him for 4500 from a breeder. He did have papers, but the old lady would not give them up (she's strange). I have put a lot of time and my own money into rehabilitating him, therefore I want him in a very good home where he can have a monitored diet, exercise and be with other horses. I don't want him standing in a barn all day again getting fed bad hay. I have 4 horses of my own, plus two boarders, and it's getting too expensive to keep all of them. He is a VERY loyal horse and social with people. He will come when you call him
So, only inquire if you have the means to keep him on your OWN property -- or Private barns are ok.no boarding stables. Likes to be outside 24/7 |
